Master the art of wiring your network
Plan, design, and build the communication network best suited to your companys need with this essential reference. Inside, networking expert Chris Clark takes you through all the stages of wiring up your data system. Updated information on all applicable industry standards and codes makes optimizing your network simple. With complete details on both copper and fiber-optic networks, this guide covers all aspects of horizontal and backbone cabling as well as the creation and construction of support structures. Specifications for testing and troubleshooting guarantee high-speed, error-free communication.
- Select the proper transmission media for the job at hand--UTP, SCTP, STP
coaxial cables, or optical fibers
- Design and install horizontal pathways, such as under floor ducts,
cellular floors, conduits, ceiling distributions, and cable trays
- Terminate multiple horizontal cables using a multi-user telecommunications
outlet assembly (MUTOA)
- Install proper grounding and bonding components, including TMGB, TGB, and
TBBIBC
- Build a telecommunications room containing ladder and communication racks,
cable-termination hardware, punch-down blocks, patch panels, and TGBs
- Implement a sound firestopping system
- Pull copper horizontal and fiber-optic cable, and handle termination and
splicing for both
- Test and certify copper cables using the linemans test set, toner
generator and amplifier unit, multimeter, continuity tester, and certification
field tester
- Perform attenuation, bandwidth, length, and fault location testing on
fiber-optic cabling systems
