This book presents structural repairs and strengthening solutions for timber-framed houses with masonry infills which have been subjected to laboratory tests and translated into easy to understand and apply recommendations. This highlights common mistakes or solutions which are not appropriate to all situations. Historically, work on traditional houses was done by master carpenters, who brought knowledge, techniques, and the access to materials and apprentices. And owners were also involved in the work. But now these trades and skills have almost disappeared. This book serves to set out workable methods in a robust way with scientific validation.

Andreea Dutu is a Lecturer at the Universitatea Tehnică de Construcții București, Romania and co-author of Seismic Resistance of Vernacular Timber Frames with Infills: Case Studies from Japan and Romania (also published by CRC Press).
Mihai Niste is a lecturer at the Universitatea Tehnică de Construcții București, Romania with research experience in the seismic behavior of traditional timber-framed houses.
