Dr. Johann Malawana: Johann is the CEO of Medics Academy, Managing Director of The Healthcare Leadership Academy (HLA) and the Associate Dean - Innovation at the School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Lancashire. Johann has a focus on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Leadership of Health Systems and Technology Enhanced Learning.
Dr. Arian Arjomandi Rad: Dr. Arian Arjomandi Rad is the Research Director at The Healthcare Leadership Academy and currently a cardio-thoracic surgery nationally appointed trainee in Oxford. He graduated from Imperial College London, with a degree in Medicine and Surgery. He also obtained a degree in Management from Imperial College London Business School. He is a PhD candidate in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Maastricht, School for Cardiovascular Diseases. Dr. Arjomandi Rad has a strong interest in Cardiothoracic Surgery, with a particular focus on academic cardiac surgery, mitral valve surgery, left ventricular assist devices, and mechanical circulatory support. He holds a particular passion for innovation, leadership and research with interests spanning the intersection of surgery, medical technology and digital health. Over his short career, he has published over 90 papers, served as editor for 2 books, held over 40 national and international presentations, and received 13 academic awards/prizes, including The Diana Legacy Award for his research and volunteering activities.
Dr. Robert Vardanyan: Dr Robert Vardanyan is a neurosurgical nationally appointed trainee in the Severn deanery. Graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine and Imperial College Business School, his professional life has been dedicated to excelling in academic neurosciences, operative neurosurgery, and surgical research.
He has achieved 50 publications and presented at more than 70 national and international academic forums, all whilst developing his clinical and operative abilities into a devoted neurosurgical resident. His academic contributions are further demonstrated by his co-authorship of various educational resources, including two textbooks on the Objective Structured Practical Examinations for undergraduate medical education. He is also a co-director of the HLA Research Masterclass Course with Dr Arjomandi Rad, aimed at fostering research skills among students and professionals worldwide.
Additionally, his involvement in Bioethics and Diploma in the Philosophy of Medicine have allowed him to explore and contribute to the application of bioethics in everyday clinical practice, particularly, with regards to artificial intelligence-enabled healthcare and surgery.
Dr. George Miller: George is an Emergency Medicine Doctor. The Executive Committee takes responsibility for the day-to-day running of the HLA, George also separately chairs the HLA Research Collaborative. He is also an Honorary University Lecturer, a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management and a lead for the Intermediate Leadership Programme.
In addition to his work at the HLA, he is a President at Amnesty International and sits on the International Advisory Council at Action Against Hunger.
He was one of the top scoring applicants for the AFP, CST and Public Health Training across the country, and he has presented national courses on 'Success in Medical School', 'Preparing for the AFP' and 'Preparing for the PSA'. He has conducted his policy research at the Department of Social Policy and Intervention, University of Oxford.
