Professor Kai Sheng is currently a professor, supervisor of master and doctoral students, vice-head of the Department of Philosophy, Vice President of Institute for Ethics and Religious Studies (IERS) at Tsinghua University.

He is also the Principal Investigator for the project on "Social Life History of Chinese Buddhist Monks" which is supported by the Major Grant of Chinese National Social Sciences Fund, the Vice-Director of the Research Institute of the Buddhist Culture of China and the editor-in-chief of journal Foxue yanjiu.

Professor Kai Sheng's research areas include Buddhist schools of South and North Dynasties in China, the relations between Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, the social history of Chinese Buddhism, Buddhism in the modern society, Buddhism and western philosophy. His study on the rites of confession (chanfa 懺法) in Chinese Buddhism started in 1998.

凱勝教授目前是清華大學哲學系的教授、碩博士生導師、副系主任，以及倫理與宗教研究所（IERS）的副所長。他同時也是「中國佛教僧侶的社會生活歷史」專案的主要研究者，該專案獲得中國國家社會科學基金的重大資助，並擔任中國佛教文化研究所的副所長及期刊《佛學研究》的主編。

凱勝教授的研究領域包括中國南北朝的佛教宗派、儒學、佛教與道教之間的關係、中國佛教的社會歷史、現代社會中的佛教，以及佛教與西方哲學。他自1998年開始研究中國佛教中的懺悔儀式（chanfa 懺法）。
