商品描述

Professional practice guide for students and early-career engineers looking to upskill and master the business of civil engineering

Civil Engineer's Handbook of Professional Practice is the first single-source guide to take the practical skills defined by the American Society of Civil Engineers' Civil Engineering Body of Knowledge (CEBOK) and provide illuminating techniques, quotes, example problems, case studies, and valuable information to assist students and early-career engineers in addressing the many challenges facing civil engineers in the real world. The work distills the Accreditation Board for Science and Technology (ABET) requirements and the body of knowledge presented in the aforementioned American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) report, versions BOK1, BOK2, and CEBOK3.

Due to the large amount of information that is presented in an easy-to-digest way, the work enables civil engineers to be competitive at an international level, building on their traditional strengths in technology and science while also acquiring a mastery of the business of civil engineering. To serve as an accessible classroom resource, instructors have access to an instructor's manual via the book's companion website.

In the second edition, readers will find information regarding:

  • Modern business topics such as design thinking, affirmative action, equal opportunity and diversity, negotiation, and construction management and scheduling
  • Key discussion of executing a professional commission, the engineer's role in project development, professional engagement, and ethics
  • Updated examples of everyday challenges for civil engineers, including defining the project, establishing objectives, identifying resources and constraints, preparing a critical path schedule, and orchestrating project delivery
  • The latest applications of emerging technologies and new sustainability rating systems for civil engineers

Providing comprehensive coverage and in-depth guidance from leading professionals, Civil Engineer's Handbook of Professional Practice is a valuable reference for early-career civil engineers. It is also highly appropriate for upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in Professional Practice and Engineering Project Management.
